1st-- DALLAS DEMONS (picked 1st by TM, 2nd by DM)

Last Season:  First place, 10-0 (5-0 in playoffs) repeat Champions...first team to ever run the table

Last Time Missed Playoffs : Season 43

Last Title: Last season

Biggest Additions: Hall of Fame center J.J. Gargantuan as free agent

Biggest Losses: Starting guard Louie Subgum (to free agency) and starting forward Tiger Masterson to retirement. Subgum tied for most assists on team and led team in steals with 9. T. Masterson scored 13.2 ppg.

Summary: Two-time MBA defending champion has league's oldest roster and starting lineup, but still has enough firepower to be a major contender for third straight title. The addition of Gargantuan sends the gigantic Gotoo Grot to the bench and gives Demons the only two active Hall of Famers. Paired with 5-time regular-season MVP and fellow Hall of Famer Chip Battoe, Dallas will be nigh impossible to score on down low. The big question is how much drop-off they will have with loss of Subgum and Jolly Mon Singh, who has never started in five seasons, taking his spot at the point. 16-game win streak entering season.

Biggest Additions: Rookie point guard sensation Handsy Joe Potatoe and shooting guard Hurricane Furrwizard (who returns to the team after one season with Charleston)

Biggest Losses: Starting point guard and top assist man Red Reparee to retirement

Summary: After spending entire existence in the West Division, Lariats switch to East where, thanks to a superb draft, they become instant contenders. Despite trading half their draft picks, Oklahoma City was deemed by Tyler to have the best draft of any club. With their two remaining picks, they snagged the prize of the draft, Handsy Joe Potatoe with the first prime pick on their first roll, then got his running mate at guard, Hurricane Furrwizard, with the second-to-last selection on a random pick. Adding these two to an already-solid front line makes Lariats dangerous.

3rd-- MILWAUKEE GREYHOUNDS (picked 2nd by TM, 3rd by DM)

Last Season:  Second place, 5-5 (0-2 in playoffs)

Last Title: Season 18

Biggest Additions: Rookie back-up guards Luca Brasi and P.D. Jazz

Biggest Losses: Nothing of consequence

Summary: Milwaukee, coming off its first playoff appearance in six seasons, will be the only team in the league to go into battle with the same starting lineup as the previous campaign. Sixth-ranked offensively and fifth-ranked defensively with this crew last season was good enough to sneak into the post-season, but adding a contending Oklahoma City team while subtracting a win-less Kansas City to the division will make things rougher. Big lineup was second in MBA in rebounds.

Last Season:  Third place, 5-5

Biggest Additions: Center Quick Tink, guard Cha-Cha Bamba, both free agents, rookie forward Muscle Shoals.

Biggest Losses: Ten-season starter and Hall of Fame bullwark at center J.J. Gargantuan and starting guard and top assist man Hurrican Furrwizard to free agency. Starting forward, pure shooter Faku Sosume.

Summary: After collapsing in the second half and missing the playoffs last season, Mountaineers lost three starters and appear to be on the verge of their first losing season in 13 campaigns. The Gargantuan Era is over.

Last-- PHILADELPHIA PHOBIA (picked 4th by TM, last by DM)

Last Season:  Fourth place, 4-6

Biggest Additions: Solid journeyman forward Bougainvillea Hedge

Biggest Losses: Lost three starters, biggest being center Chutcher Mouthchair, as well as guard Brownie McShytles and forward Santo Thomas...all to retirement.

Summary: Hard to imagine perennial champions even competing for a playoff spot in a division which just got tougher. Holdovers Wawa Wewa and Little Dickie Papers will be hard-pressed to keep team out of the cellar.

1st-- SAN JOSE FIGHTING AMIGOS

Last Season:  Third place, 4-6

Last Title: Season 25

Biggest Additions: Targeted free-agent forward Vito Andolini and highly-touted rookie center Lothario Fartlek

Biggest Losses: Back-up guard Freddy Chepuzzo lost to free agency

Summary: Before being de-railed by a season-long injury to star center Hunk R. Down, the Fighting Amigos were firing up points at a tremendous rate. Led by Rookie of the Year and All-MBA point guard Jesse Shershot, San Jose was a viable contender early. This season they went out and got one of the two excellent rookie centers, Lothario Fartlek, who will back up Down, who has gone down to injury two straight campaigns. Plus, they now have what they consider to be a true small forward in second-year prime pick Vito Andolini, moving Lupalin Greenbeard to capable backup. Lotta talent here and lotta depth.

 

2nd-- Sacramento River Dogs

Last Season:  First place, 9-1 (2-3 in playoffs)

Last Title: Season 44

Biggest Additions: Guard Freddy Chepuzzo

Biggest Losses: Glue guy power forward Pap Smearz to retirement

Summary: The title-opportunity window is closing for the perennial contenders who finally lost a piece of their starting lineup that they have held intact for four consecutive seasons. The R-Dogs have been in the finals three of the past four seasons, with one title, have finished i first in the West three times in that span and are coming off back-to-back 9-1 seasons. They should still make the playoffs with longtime backup James "Cherry Challenge" Payne replacing Smearz, but they are not as strong as they once were.

3rd-- Seattle Stampede

Last Season:  Fourth place, 3-7

Last Title: Season 37

Biggest Additions: 6-10 power forward Charles Broccoli

Biggest Losses: Team's top rebounder and shot blocker last season Stu Gatz

Summary: Good defensive team got better with addition of top rookie forward Broccoli. They will be hard to score on again, but, like last season when they finished last i scoring, will struggle to put points on the board. Broccoli will fit right in defensively and on the boards, but he's not expected to be a big-time scorer. A solid third ahead of L.A. and Gillette.

4th-- Los Angeles Big One

Last Season:  Secod place, 8-2 (0-2 in playoffs)

Last Title: Season 45

Biggest Additions: Rookie guard Oblio Assbag, rookie center Juji Mufu

Biggest Losses: Defensive guard stalwart Norma Conquest to retirement and starters forward Tomm Foolerie and center Jonk Vanderdonk to free agency.

Summary: Decimated by retirement and injury, the Big One returns two starters to last season's playoff squad, albeit a great one in All-MBA guard Dr. Marcus Brody who led the league in scoring. Rookie guard Oblio Assbag joins rebounding fiend Sheetrock Hudson in a lineup that could surprise.

Here is the all-time starting lineup for players with the last name Masterson in the Masterson Basketball Association.

The selection is based on awards won in their careers. There is no doubt the guards are the best two Masterson's at the position, and when looking at the forwards, Codge is clearly the best there. Tiger Masterson’s late-career surge with Dallas gets him into the starting Masterson lineup, replacing  Ed Masterson.
But the center position, with Tyler Masterson, remains a bit of a default. In the history of the league there has only been two Masterson centers, the other being Joseph "Pete" Masterson. Tyler earned the center spot on the All-Masterson team by hitching his wagon to the Philadelphia star. He never started in an MBA game, but has 3 championship rings thanks to Phobia dominance in the earliest days of the league.

UPDATING THE MASTERSONS

Dallas guard Meat Pants Masterson moved past three Mastersons on this MBA GVP list in Season 47, adding his first All Star Game appearance and a second championship ring as he, by far, enjoyed his finest season. 

 

Tiger Masterson bows out of the league with four awards, enjoying a late-career surge in which he got all of them in his last two seasons as he helped Dallas to a pair of titles while earning two spots in the All Star Game.

• G - Sneeeky Baybee - This guy has very few redeeming qualities and will kill you with an inclination to fire up threes with a sub 10% chance of hitting them.  He'll also hack the fuck out of you
• 2 stars
• G - Butterbean Sweetshot - Shoots threes, cant make them, an OK shot, wont kill you on D, but probably shoots way too much at a 40% or less rate.
• F - Fyodor Maximov - Big boy, can rebound and is the best passer in the class, but cannot hit the broad side of the barn from beyond 3 feet.  Also plays matador defense other than poking the ball away from behind on the dribble.
• F - Caster Gobbler - interesting guy, cant do anything great but nothing really terrible. He might actually prove decent but never start on a +500 team.  6-11 with incredible range but doesnt take any shots or rebound for his size, or play D.  I guess he'll make a team.  Maybe the highest rated 2 star.
• F - Popple Tittynope - another giant that will hack you and play no D at all.   Devastating from the elbow but dont get too close or too far away from the rim, he will brick it.  OK rebounder for Power F
• G - Luka Brasi - This guy is the epitome of a mediocre bench contributor.  A wasted draft pick for sure, but will make a team because he can shoot OK from most spots and might hit a 3 every now and then.
• 3 stars
• F - Spiritus Sanctus - An intriguing small forward with a developing skillset.  Needs to improve ball handling and defense but has the tendency and tools to be a strong starter with some improvements.  Can really score from inside FT line.
• F - Muscle Shoals - The PROS: Another F with range, and an incredible leaper at the Small F.  Can score from all zones and pass a bit.  The CONS: An absolute zero on D.  Wont hack or defend any component of the game.  Not sure he's an efficient enough scorer to make up for that.  Will definitely make a team, probably more appropriately a first off the bench guy.
• G - PD Jazz - Another player that can ONLY foul you on defense, really not great.  PD will help you out with his rebounding at the guard and his ballhandling.  He can shoot REALLY well from the important zones for a 2G but he wants to drive to the hole where he's hot garbage.  He might start in a league starved for guard depth, but he's a painful starter.
• C - Juji Mufu - Bodybuilder and offensive sympathizer, Juju Mufu has the best name of the bunch and is the draft's best shooter.  He is going to need to be stopped if he doesn't stop himself by military pressing his luck with the refs. He has a religious aversion to clean D and will spend more time on the bench in the game as well as at the gym because of it
• F - Helmut Noodles - another RANGY forward with the best 3pter in the bunch and can LEAP at 6-9.  Wont help you on D but looks to be ready to put up 12-15 ppg on decent shooting in the high 50%s. Not a solid starter yet, but might improve his handling and D to become one.
• 4 stars
• C - Swordfish Willie Shingles - The third player created of the rookies, and thought to be likely the prize of the litter until the 5 stars put him in his place. Shingles can do it all: rebound, world class defender, and shoot in the zones he needs to.  A little under performing down low will hurt him against powerful defenders but his +/- will stay strong given his defensive assets.  Strong starter.
• G - Oblio Assbag - A young rookie with a man's body.  Can already handle and defend like a player in his prime.  Pair that maturity with a high arching shot that's hard to stop, and strong % shooting from most zones and a nice assisting tendency, Oblio will be a boon to whomever drafts him, off the bench or as a solid starter with some strong upside-potential seasons down the line.
• 5 stars
• F - Charles Broccoli - Big meatless 6'10 body has some raw veggie talent that can still ripen, but he would start on every team.  He can rebound and defend at an elite level and from inside the FT line he needs to be stopped.  May struggle a bit moving with the ball but his +/- will be undeniable as a defender, rebounder, and % shooter. Would start on every team.
• G - Handsy Joe Potato - my pick in the draft because of the value of guards relative to their replacements.  Handsy Joe can DO IT ALL, with a little room to improve on the handles, and a little hacky will cost him minutes.  A rebounder and big defensive positional guard that can play point or 2.  He's said to model his game after Naf, and will take 50+ threes every year of his career and challenge the league leadership in scoring.  He can shoot with efficiency from EVERY zone which is almost non-existent at guard.  A breaker when he pulls up from 3, or taking it the length.  He might lead his team in blocks as well.  a wow player.
• C - Lothario Fartlek - The scouts were not impressed when they saw this 6-10' center do his vertical leap.  And he seems to have no idea how to judge the caram of the ball off the offensive glass, many scouts went on break waiting to see Gobbler who was up next - boy did they miss out.  Although he cannot jump for a board, Lothario's defensive timing will ensure that he will contend for the block title as soon as Battoe retires, and then as soon as he steps inside the arch, you better put a hand in his face and even then, Jokic-like release makes his midrange game hard to stop.  Maybe the best short shot we've ever seen.  He wont take a ton of those, but when he moves in a step,  you better make him miss.

All in all, one of the best classes of rookies ever seen. The Rookie team would content for the title, which is pretty unlikely:

G - Assbag

G - Potatoe

C - Fartlek

F - Broccoli

F - Sanctus

Would go 6-4 / 7-3 and contend for the finals.

BIG NEWS ON KANSAS CITY BASTARD ANGELS...plus...announcing Season 48 free agents

KANSAS CITY RELOCATES TO WYOMING TOWN

 After three seasons of bottom basement finishes and a combined record of 2-28, the Kansas City Bastard Angels have pulled up their shallow roots and moved to a new city.

That new home, determined randomly, is the third-largest city in the state of Wyoming...Gillette; population 32,000.

The relocation means that MBA divisions will have to be reorganized to reflect the true East and West geographical status. Because of Gillette's location, the West Division team located furthest to the east will now play in the East. That team is Oklahoma City. And the Lariats will be replaced in the West by Gillette.
