MOUNTAINEERS OPEN WITH BIG VICTORY
CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Mountaineers opened Season 51 with a convincing 87-75 victory over a tough East Division rival, Oklahoma City.
After a close, hard-fought two quarters, the home team took control in the second half, steadily increasing its 1-point lead until its eventual 12-point advantage was reached.

28 GVP--In addition to dominating OKC's top player defensively (Handsy Joe Potatoe), second-year Charleston guard SPLASH GORDON tickled the twine for 23 points, going 7 for 12 from the floor (3 of 5 from deep) and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. The 6-4 Gordon pulled down 3 boards and handed out 2 assists.
28 GVP--Eight-season Charleston mainstay FROG MORTON had his way with fellow forward Toilety T. Paper, scoring a game-high 24 points, with 5 of his buckets coming on slam dunks. He was 10 of 13 from the floor and a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul stripe. The 6-9 Morton also pulled down 3 rebounds and had 1 assist.
28 GVP -- After earning the rookie game POG, Oklahoma City small forward BUBA LIPA kicked off his MBA career with a triple-double performance in his initial contest. The 6-7 Lipa led his team in scoring with 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting (1 for 2 from deep), pulled down 5 boards and led his team in assists with 5. He added 1 blocked shot.
