San Jose 71, Dallas 62
AMIGOS STAY IN FIRST BUT LOSE STARTER
SAN JOSE -- The defending champion San Jose Fighting Amigos won their fourth consecutive game to clinch a playoff spot and stay in first place in the West, besting a pesky Dallas club 71-62.
But in doing so they lost starting forward Lupalin Greenbeard to a seven-game injury that will extend into the post-season.
The playoff race is over in the West, with second-place Los Angeles also having clinched a spot with their recent win over Gillette. This has to be the quickest the post-season race has been settled in the 50-season history of the MBA.
The cross-over win by San Jose gives the West its third consecutive victory over the East, with the East still holding a 4-3 advantage.
Greenbeard's place on the San Jose roster will be taken by 6-6 forward Jospah Gecan, a defensive specialist, who got the call out of the cut pile. This is the third time in his five-season career that Greenbeard has suffered a major injury. He was tied for the league lead in steals before getting hurt.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
With the injury to Lupalin Greenbeard, San Jose will be counting strongly on his replacement in the starting lineup, MUSCLE SHOALS. The 6-7 leaper provided excellent support off the bench in last season's championship run. And in taking the place of Greenbeard in this game beginning in the second quarter, Shoals demonstrated the kind of contributions for which he is capable. The third-year man dominated at small forward, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds while scoring 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting, his only miss coming from beyond the arc. He also had one assist.
Other 20-plus GVP peformances
-- The league's leading scorer, Hall of Fame San Jose guard Jesse Shershot, played a crisp, efficient game while topping all scorers with 20 points. The fourth-year man added 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal to the playoff-clinching win.
-- Impactful rookie point guard Juzan Djinn of Dallas stayed in the Rookie of the Year hunt with a 15-point performance that included a game-high 3 blocked shots and 2 rebounds.
-- Finally out of the Dallas doghouse and getting his first start of the season, Itsaka Numdrum pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds from his guard position, popped in a trio of treys and scored 11 points. The 6-4 Numdrum also tied for game-high in assists with 5 and game-high in steals with 2.
-- After a slow start, two-time All-MBA center Chochky Galumpkus turned it on in the fourth quarter to finish with a team-high 17 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
-- Dependable, affable Al A. Orden contributed 15 points, 3 boards and 2 assists for the Demons.

The 10 Lowest-ranked player careers in MBA History
No. 4
This 39-year-old former clerk has taken to duck herding since his retirement from the MBA following Season 41. He says that he is not at all bitter about spending 9 long, boring seasons in the Cut Pile. "I was a damned good shot blocker who never got a chance," said Fideaux. "I was also an excellent dribbler and on-the-ball defender. So what if I couldn't shoot at all? I take it back...I AM bitter. And woe to any MBA franchise owner who happens upon my duck herd. They will go DOWN."
