Season 49 Playoffs ... Semifinals Game 1...Seattle at Charleston

CHARLESTON 84, SEATTLE 65 (Slaughter Rule enforced)

MOUNTAINEERS OVERWHELM SEATTLE

CHARLESTON -- The favored Charleston Mountaineers put this initial playoff encounter in their back pocket early with a prodigious 25-6 first quarter on the way to an 84-65 Game 1 win over the Seattle Stampede in this best of three semifinal series.

It was the sixth consecutive loss for Seattle, which began to put up more of a fight in the second half when the bell of defeat had already tolled.

The Stampede have bowed out of their last two playoff appearances without a win, having last tasted post-season nectar in Season 40, when they went to the Finals and lost.

Meanwhile, Charleston displayed the crisp efficiency of a team with the best record in the MBA, holding Seattle to just 48.1 percent shooting while displaying 55.9 percent marksmanship of its own.

The game mirrored the regular season cross-over win by Charleston, which finished with a 80-66 score.

The top scorer on Charleston all season long, shooting guard MISTER METHANE, gave Seattle the gas with a game-high 26-point scoring performance to coast home with POG honors. The fifth-year guard was 10 for 14 for the game, bombing home 4 long ones in 7 attempts and going 2 for 4 at the foul line. He dominated AnDamian Wayne. The 6-2 Methane grabbed 2 rebounds, had 1 assist and swiped a game-high 2 steals.

OTHER 20-PLUS GVP PERFORMERS
-- Longtime Seattle center Seven Castanza of Charleston had his second big game against his old team in as many outings this season. He was POG in the regular season meeting, and in this one he out-played center Carga Larga badly, scoring 18 points and grabbing 4 boards.

-- The lone holdover from last season's Charleston lineup, forward Frog Morton also took it to his opposite, Charles Broccoli, scoring 16 points, snagging a team-high 7 boards, handing out 2 assists and getting 1 steal.

-- Although he scored just 9 points, Seattle forward Cam Caldwell blocked a game-high 4 shots, pulled down 6 rebounds, had 2 assists and 1 steal and prevented 6 opponent points with his defense.

NEXT UP: Game 1 of the other Semifinal series which pits Philadelphia (7-3) at San Jose 6-4. The home team Fighting Amigos have the longest active winning streak at 5 in a row and led the league in scoring. But Philly's won-loss record in the tough East means that they are tempered for battle.
